The HPD Girls Power Project Ice Hockey Team played their first game ever this morning at the Toyota Skate Center in El Segundo, Ca. A large turn out of family and friends came out to see and CHEER on these young girls, some of whom never skated before joining the team, much less played organized hockey. Their coaches worked tirelessly teaching the girls to skate, and the rules of ice hockey so they were all ready for today's very first game!
The Athletics took an early lead and were able to hold on to that lead to win the OCABA Lower Division Championship Game by a final score of 22 to 11 over the Rays today. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ATHLETICS FOR THE FINE SEASON AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Looking forward to next season beginning the early part of 2017.

The ref said the puck never went into the goal. He was out of position.
We were able to get some games played in between the rain on Thursday. Only one court was actually playable as there were still some puddles of water on two of the three courts. Never the less everyone enjoyed the time and games.
Two Representatives from the LAPD stopped by our Futsal courts today to see what Futsal was all about. They spoke with Sgt. Congac, watched some of the action, and when they left they were very impressed.
A very nice turn out of youth on this chilly Thursday afternoon brought out some exciting Youth Futsal. Hawthorne's own Gyasi Zardes was at the Futsal courts and played several games with our youth. About 35 of Hawthorne's youth came to the Fustal courts to play soccer this afternoon. What they didn't know was that Gyosi Zardes of the LA Galaxy who grew up in our City was there to instruct and play with the kids! These Thursday Futsal games are sponsored by the Hawthorne Police Dept. and SpaceX. Hawthorne PD Community Affairs Sergeant Chris Cognac runs the games and also mentors the kids in sportsmanship, friendly play, and most of all the importance of getting a good education. After the games there is an open Q and A session on some of these current topics. SpaceX asks some trivia questions about SpaceX and the kids who can give the correct answer receive SWAG from Spacex. Some of the SWAG consists of T-Shirts, key chains and other items.
