The weather forecast was for showers this evening, but the beautiful Southern California said NO RAIN TONIGHT and there was exciting racing tonight. Two 35 lap Late Model Main Events; Legends; Super Stocks; Figure 8 race; Trucks and Spec Late Models all put on a great show.
Fourteen youth came out on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon to enjoy and play some Futsal. The games were fast and everyone enjoyed playing. There is plenty of room for more local youth to join us for a couple hours of fun, exercise and Futsal.
Today the Hawthorne Police Department held it's Ride to Live Motorcycle Training Course for 33 riders who signed up for this free instruction. As usual the training was hands on and intense, and all the attendees had a wonderful and successful time.
The Hawthorne Youth Futsal Kids were joined this afternoon by the Hawthorne PD Explorers for some Futsal fun. The teams were combined by all the participents and three teams played round robin games with the first team to score two goals remained on the pitch.
Lots of Futsal was played today by the 20+ HPD Futsal kids who came out on this beautiful Wednesday afternoon. Along with that, some of the kids tried to show off some of their individual skills with the soccer ball.
What a beautiful afternoon for HPD Youth Futsal. THe Futsal courts at Memorial park were full today and we had just enugh kids to make two full teams and only needed to utilize the center court. This gave the two other courts for open play, though many of the kids joined our games.
We made four teams from all the Boys & Girls who came out to play HPD Futsal today. That means we used two of the three courts today. There is still more room for more boys & girls to join us on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, Come out and have fun playing FUTSAL.
Not actually a full day but a couple of hours on the water learning first hand about boat safety and handling. Glad to report all had a great time even tho' a few came back with wet feet. They were the ones who sat with their feet over the side!! A BIG THANK YOU to the HPD Community Affairs Department Lameka Bell, Casey Montoya & Darnell Wallace, and the parents who chaperoned the kids today. Without all of them this outing would never have happened.
It is the third Wednesday of he month and we hold the weekly HPD Futsal games at Jim Thorpe Park. A nice turnout of Futsal youth came out to play even tho' the weather report called for afternoon rain. The sun was out strong and no rain was around. Everyone enjoyed the games.
The clinic started at 4PM with skills training, followed by open play by age groups, and ended with a tournament for the older kids. The entire program ran from 4 to 9 PM. An amazing time was had by all the participants and the parents who brought their youngsters to the clinic. T-shirts were given to all the kids participating, and an ICE CREAM truck pulled up and served FREE ice cream for all. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO THE HAWTHORNE POLICE DEPT & THE LA GALAXY FOR PUTTING ON AN AMAZING AFTERNOON OF SOCCER. Stay tuned for the next clinic later this year at Jim Thorpe Park Futsal Courts !
February's HPD Ride to Live Motorcycle Training Class had many beautiful motorcycles and riders with different skill levels all learning how to handle their rides to avoid emergency conditions on the streets & freeways. There was even a rider with a passenger along taking today's class.
A diverse group of motorcycle riders came to Hawthorne today to further their riding skills on the freeways & roads of California. From slow speed bike control to accident avoidance techniques and emergency braking were part of the training today.
Decided that we would use the newer Futsal Courts at James Thorpe Park every third Wednesday of the month just for a change of scenery. We had about 35 kids show up and some parents stayed around to watch the fun & action.
A crisp cool late afternoon and a great bunch of HPD Youth Futsal kids enjoyed a couple of hours of almost non stop Futsal games. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU goes out to the Hawthorne Police Department for sponsoring HPD FUTSAL !!

With the possibility of rain looming, about twenty of the HPD Futsal Kids came out to play Futsal today and had a great time playing on the mini soccer courts. Good sportsmanship was the order of the day.
What a nice surprise for the Futsal Kids from the LA Galaxy Foundation. A car pulled into the parking lot just before we started playing and two representatives carried a large box of new soccer balls Thank you LA Galaxy Foundation! Your gifts will be put to good use every Wednesday.
Today Hawthorne PD's Ride to Live program was a ladies only training session that was well attended. Many different and beautiful motorcycles in attendance were all piloted by women today. (Except for the training officers, who were male police officers).
This past Saturday morning about 30 riders gathered under the 105 freeway to spend the day learning how to "Ride to Live." This is a program offered free of charge by the Hawthorne Police Motor Division. Check the website for future dates. hawthornepolice.com/ride-to-live/
