Today had a smaller than usual turnout of kids. We played several round robin games amongst three teams with the "winners" of each game staying on the pitch. It was fun, exciting and a bit different then what we normally do when there are more kids at the courts.
A real nice turnout on a beautiful Thursday afternoon here is Southern California. Six teams played in a round robin style, so each team played every team. Sportsmanship and teamwork was visible on every court.
Thirty motorcycle riders came to Hawthorne on all sorts of motorcycles, both older and new, to take the HPD 'Ride to Live' motorcycle training course. For information on the next training course go to www.ridetolive.com
With more than 50 kids at the Futsal Courts today we had 3 games continually going from 4:15 to 6:00 PM this afternoon. All the kids got to play (as they always do) and from the looks on their faces, they all had a GREAT time.
We started the afternoon with a small group of Hawthorne's Futsal kids and all of a sudden we had a full house!. For some unknown reason many of the kids showed up late today. Thankfully Sgt. Chris was in a great mood today and switched around teams and let everyone play. Thank you Sgt. Chris !!
Next class is scheduled for 4/21/18. It is a free one-day motorcycle riding class for LICENSED motorcycle riders. Requirements: A valid M-1 (motorcycle) license & insurance. Have basic riding skills. Bring your own motorcycle, helmet, gloves, eye protection & footwear that covers ankles. Sign a liability waiver. Have a desire to improve your skills.
On a clear bright sunny afternoon over 40 of Hawthorne's youth came out to the Memorial Park Futsal Park to enjoy an afternoon of Futsal fun. After the games were completed Sergeant Chris had a special treat from the LA Galaxy for some of the kids. We had gotten tickets to the Galaxy home opening game for this coming Sunday evening, and several of the kids and their parents & siblings will be going to the game!
Today was a sad day. Gyasi Zardes was traded from the LA Galaxy to the Columbus Crew SC and will be moving to Ohio to continue his professional soccer career. Gyasi and his family will be missed by all connected with HPD Youth Futsal. Today we said goodbye, and the Hawthorne PD presented Gyasi with a beautiful plaque thanking him for all he has done for our city. We all wish Gyasi great success.
With the HPD, City of Hawthorne Mayor, LA Galaxy, Herbalife CEO, and special guest Gyasi Zardes, the New Hawthorne Futsal Courts officially opened on Dec. 4, 2017 with a gala opening and training session for the youth by the LA Galaxy.
A large turnout of Hawthorne's youth came out to have some fun and play Futsal today. Before the games today, I went over to Jim Thorpe Park to see the new mural for the two new Futsal Courts that Herbalife commissioned. Gyasi Zardesi came by to have a look also. The first several images are of the new mural.
